With the increasing pressures being put on Columbia University by the Trump administration in the form of heightened surveillance and targeting of students, academic programs, and funding, many community members have reported feelings of distress and fear. While both Columbia and Barnard’s student health offices have provided blanket statements encouraging students to seek mental health support, exercise, and to process emotions with trusted individuals, students have requested additional resources to deal with the political and academic uncertainty. In a new email sent to students, these offices have responded to student demand and advertised the following events:
Columbia Health:
- Yoga for Authoritarian Regimes
- Make Nice with ICE: Communication Strategies for Handing Over Your Rights
- Dance Fitness Series: Interpreting Facism Through Movement
Barnard LeFrak Center for Well-Being:
- That Goes Where? Information Session on Heterosexual Intercourse for Those Going Back Into the Closet
- You, Me, and the NYPD: Making Space on Campus for Oppressors
- Don’t Worry About It, Kitten: How Future Wives and Mothers Can Ignore Current Events
