The Goose Not Worn

Inspired by and directly stolen from Robert Frost

Two Canada Gooses diverged in a dorm closet,

And sorry I could not wear both

And be doubly-coated, long I stood

And looked at one as long as I could

To where it folded in the cupboard;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was longer and wanted wear;

Though as for that, the outfits there

Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In shades every New Yorker had worn—black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how trend leads to trend,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh,

Sometime ages and ages hence:

Two Canada Gooses diverged in my wood closet, and I—

I took the one less worn by,

And that fit has made all the difference.
