Trump Campaign Attempts to Dispel Backlash From Calling Puerto Rico an “Island of Garbage”: “We Meant to Say Long Island”

After enormous media backlash for derogatory remarks made by a comedian at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday including calling Puerto Rico an “island of garbage,” the former president’s campaign has been quick to release a statement to correct the serious blunder of the night. “My bad guys,” the statement read. “We meant to say Long Island.” Although a bit on the shorter end, the statement immediately won back the Manhattan crowd that had balked at the rude treatment of Puerto Rico. We interviewed Tom James, an attendee of the event, for his reaction.

“When I heard that guy go up there and say those rude things about Puerto Rico, I began to realize what a racist Trump has been for this whole campaign. He lost my vote that night,” James said. Upon being informed of the corrective statement issued by the Trump campaign, James remarked, “Hellllll yeah fuck those Long Islanders, MAGA 2024 baby!”

Clearly, Trump, a New York native himself, knew exactly how to rile up a Manhattan crowd: hating on Long Island. As a result of this public campaign statement, the Associated Press is now projecting Trump to win the state of New York.
