BAKER ATHLETICS COMPLEX—After reviewing the latest assessment by the University’s COVID-19 Task Force on the risk of coronavirus spread, Columbia Athletics has announced an end to the ban on fans at home sporting events. “Most of our games are so sparsely attended anyway that it is unlikely the ban did anything to reduce the spread of the disease” says Athletic Director Devon Ray. When asked if he was concerned by the highly contagious nature of the Omicron variant, the football coach Gustavo Brady replied, “it seems like every other student at Columbia has already been ill with the new variant; at least this way, the lads can feel some support from their parents.” Reports confirm the football team’s Ivy League opener against Princeton has been postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak among the players.
